Pirelli have taken a very aggressive approach for the first few flyaway races and some of the tyre choices has really surprised the F1 Community. Most notable of all being the supersoft tyre compound for the first race in Australia.

Last year even with soft compound tyres some teams were struggling with excessive degradation so it will be a real icing on the cake with the supersoft tyres as the race is likely to see a lot of pit-stops.

To add to all this, Pirelli have opted to bring Medium compound tyres as the Prime tyre for the Australian Grand Prix. So, there is a complete step between the options i.e the supersoft and the prime i.e Medium compound.

“The full step in the compound choice should ensure a performance gap between the cars that allows strategy to come into play,” added Pirelli in a media statement.
